Donna wrote "Poor Mountain Boy" with her husband and regular co-writer Rick Stanley. Rick is the writer of the bluegrass standard "Home In The Mountains" and is also Donna's bandleader and an important harmony voice on her records and in her stage show. Donna also decided to call her band "The Poor Mountain Boys" after this song.
